Batman and Robin sketchity by thejeremydale Batman and Robin sketchity by thejeremydale
I really felt like posting some artwork today, so here's 1 of 3 for the 30th of January, 2009.

Batman is... allegedly dead. I know, spoilers, right? Hush, you. It would have made news reports, but Marvel stole their thunder with the Obama and Spider-Man news story... hahahahahaha Classic.

Anyway, here it be. Enjoy!

Dear Jeremy and All:

Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well.

How many of you here have read "The Final Crisis" and really understood it?

Just last week, I read a theory as to where Bruce Wayne might be AND why the guy in the tan coloured trousers at the end of Final Crisis is drawing the Bat logo on the wall of that cave PLUS why that skeleton you see just might be a red herring.

The theory this: Bruce Wayne is in the Stone Age with, for right now, no hope of rescue. I've yet to find out who the guy in the tan trousers is.

Anyone who wishes to rain all over my parade should feel to do so.

Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!

Sincerely yours always,

Indy.

Thanks for the heads up-- it's fairly old news at this point, but it's all good. :)

Dear Thincage:

Good evening from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well.

Firstly, great stuff!!! This is HILARIOUS!! One question: Any chance of it coming out in colour? I agree with most of the people here. Trying to kill off Bruce Wayne is like trying to kill off Supes/Clark Kent. It ain't possible.

I do agree that Bruce isn't dead and never will be dead. Nobody scowls like Bruce Wayne. Nobody glares like Bruce Wayne.

Picture it this way: The DC Universe without Bats and Supes will be exactly like the Marvel Universe without Wolvie and Spidey--a collapsed house of cards.

Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!

Sincerely yours always,

Indy.

No chance seeing me color this, no-- I'm a penciller. That's my medium. However, were a colorist to ask to color it, I'd gladly pass it on.

Oh man, Robin's expression is HYSTERICAL! I love it!

Maybe it's just me, and the fact that I don't read a lot of the main DC/Marvel titles, but it seems to me that it's getting harder and harder to keep track of who's supposed to be dead and who isn't anymore.

By thy side,

Figaro

Darn you marvel and your cheap stunts.
I didn't even know they killed him 'till someone on here told me.

Oh thank you for drawing this. :D It sums up my current feelings about the whole R.I.P. thing so well. It is just one gigantic eye roll.

Lol,cool drawing. I'd rather wait months(years?) for the next Allstar B&R then wrack my brain over what's going on in R.I.P., though.

Nice! Though I still don't understand the rationale...

Batman just made well over $100 million dollars for us on the big screen, so let's make absolutely sure that NONE of that will carry over to comics sales by killing him off during a boost in popularity?

Good luck, DC.

I agree completely-- in many ways, they completely dropped the ball on this one. COMPLETELY. Not only did they pull a stunt, no one even noticed or cared.

Yup-- but Bats isn't really DEAD, per se... He's just in a convoluted past/future and has to work his way through a kajillionty worlds and years to get back...

... I can't roll my eyes hard enough.

Well, to be fair, if they'd hyped up the "death" in FC#6 they'd have looked like fools when FC#7 came out two weeks later and...well, Bruce isn't dead. It's an interesting twist, but not death and not media worthy.

That said - loving this last batch of sketches. Lots of love for this and the Spidey & Amazing Friends one. Awesome work. Oh, and I totally agree with the comment above about the silly and serious creating a great contrast in this piece. Keep up the great work!

Thanks! And quite true-- but then again, I wouldn't say that Final Crisis in general has been all that great, unfortunately. Another dropped ball in many regards-- not terrible, but nowhere near superb. I'm interested in seeing where this all leads us. :)

They had a TPB of the first several issues. But that series was golden because it was a comedy series in a sea of depressing mush. Impulse and Superboy had the same role (on and off), and when DC canceled all three, I pretty much stopped reading DC.

I heart Impulse-- fun-loving, reckless, absent-minded, ADHD Impulse. Not the morose kid without any personality they turned him into then renamed then aged him more so he could be the Flash then killed him. I'll never understand that reasoning to ruin the only innocence their entire universe has by tainting their youthful characters.

Hell yes! Impulse was a breath of fresh air in the DCU, because even in the face of storylines like No Man's Land, you could still have a good time reading his adventures.

Now? Yeah, DC treats their youth characters almost as badly as Marvel did with their teen X-Men a few years ago (I swear, nobody over 18 died in the X-books for a three-year stretch).

It's depressing to see-- I don't know about you, but I laugh a lot in my day-to-day life... and that very laughter/joy/happiness just isn't represented right now with those guys.

It really is a shame. That balance is what I really liked about the DCU that I didn't see at Marvel. With Marvel letting Jeph Loeb demolish their Ultimate line creatively, monetarily, and storyline-wise, I think I'm going to have to return to my manga roots for a while. @_@
