SKRATCHADAY 048: Gatecrasher! [link]Please tell me I'm not the only one that remembers this classic series from the late 90s/turn of the millenium. Black Bull Entertainment? Owned by Wizard? Drawn by Amanda Conner and written by Mark Waid? Absolutely the funniest comic book on the stands? Anybody?
Well, screw you guys. Gatecrasher was AMAZING. It was even optioned as a show on MTV, but they ended up doing that Spider-Man CGI thing instead (true story). It involved a high school/college-aged guy who could open portals to other dimensions, but often accidentally. The military enlists him to their side, and they fight off alien invasions
all the while the hero struggles to keep his girlfriend from dumping him. Really, it was great. Check it out. SEEK it out. You'll thank me for it.
Google it for a look at the teaser they made up for MTV, too looked like fun!

SKRATCHADAY 049: Avengers Assemble! [link]I'm the guy that, even as a kid, would tell you the Avengers could kick the JLA's butts any day
and meant it. I was raised on the Marvel Universe, and really dug the Avengers from the get-go. Thanks to my father being a huge comic geek himself, I was lucky enough to read from issue 4 onward, even at the early age of 5 in the 1980s. I couldn't get enough! Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Wasp & Hank Pym it was a fun team dynamic, and brilliant creators like John Buscema, Roy Thomas, John Byrne, George Perez on 3 or four runs (my favorite being his with Kurt Busiek), and so many more made the Avengers mythos tons of fun. Even now with the radically different team with Spidey, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Spider-Woman, and Ronin as newer members make it always interesting and fascinating to see change and grow.

SKRATCHADAY 050: The NEW FF Reed Richards! [link]Time to bust out the new designs for the FF! I like the uniforms, but I dunno it's not really Fantastic Four, is it? I suppose that's the point I'm cool with it. It's got a Mass Effect flair to it, and that's kinda cool. I figured I'd draw the new FF as we currently know them (I'm still holding out that Spidey is a temporary member in a rotating position, allowing other character to come in and have FF-centric redesigns it makes sense for action figure sales and video game alternate skins).

SKRATCHADAY 051: THE NEW FF Invisible Woman! [link]Okay, so bear with me here
I'm about to rant. I've never SEEN a more needlessly complicated and out-of-character design than this one recently. It's as if the designer couldn't figure out how to individualize the design beyond the template uniform he had built up with the logo, so he added lines here and there just to fill space. Not a fan.
Not to mention that without color? THIS LOOKS A LOT LIKE THE SUE RICHARDS OUTFIT DURING HER "90s Lookit Me I'm Dressed as a Prostitute" uniform. Don't believe me?
Check out

So glad to be reminded of THAT monstrosity again. :/
I don't get bitter or dish the haterade often, but here's one I just don't get. The uniform in the sketch is ridiculous and poorly designed starts with a solid basis and turns into Photoshop Design 101. Ick.
